How I Finally Started Making Money

how I finally made money onlineIf you’ve tried making money online, you know that it’s a lot harder than you thought it would be. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve spent hours getting a PPC campaign ready, then going off for the day and coming home at night to find that I’d spent $100 and had zero sales.

Spending Two Years to Make $17.62 Sucks

That’s not even the worst part… my first venture online was an SBI website that I spent TWO YEARS on, that made a grand total of $17.62 from adsense. If you don’t know, SBI is an all-in-one hosting/website builder/training course solution for people that know absolutely nothing about making money online to build a money making website. It can and does work for a lot of people– I’m not bashing SBI, but the sites look generic, and some of the tools are just too basic once you figure out what you’re doing. To SBI’s credit, the fault was with me – I chose the wrong niche, it was way too competitive.

PPC Can Cost You A Lot of Money If You Have No Idea What You’re Doing

Anyways, while I did learn a TON about building on online business from SBI, after two years of work and no money, I gave up for a few months. Then, somehow I got interested in PPC. The idea of setting up a pay per click campaign and direct linking to an offer sounded easy, and I thought that profits would just start rolling in. Wrong again. Close to $1,000 and ZERO sales later, I gave up on PPC.

How I Finally Started Making Money

The idea of making money online never completely left my mind, so a few months after giving up on PPC, I started reading forums again about all the ways to make money online. With my SBI site, I had created an Amazon affiliate account, but had never made a sale. So, I searched around about making money with Amazon’s affiliate program. I visited several sales pages and read a bunch of posts on the warrior forum about different programs, and somehow ended up buying a program about selling Amazon products. If I learned anything from my SBI experience, it was how to sit down and churn out pages of content, so doing Amazon review sites was easy for me.

I made my first sale with this method within a few weeks, which I was blown away by. I had my Amazon affiliate links on my SBI website for two years and had never made a sale, and this only took a few weeks. So, with renewed motivation, I started churning out these review sites, and within 6 months, I was making good money online. Not hundreds of thousands like the “gurus” show you on their sales pages, but a few thousand a month. I was stoked.

What Really Started to Work For Me…

Now, the guy behind the Amazon training I bought is a cool guy, and his training was awesome… it’s the first method I learned that I actually made decent money with, BUT.….and this is his own fault………through one of his emails he introduced me to a training program that was by far the best I’ve seen as far as being easy to implement and actually works. Basically the program clarified for me what I should be doing and spending my time on. My “500 Club” course is sort of a hybrid of what I learned from that as well as some techniques I came up with on my own that amplified the results I was already getting.

My Advice…

It is so easy to get sidetracked with not only all the new product launches, but even new techniques you read about for free on different blogs and forums.

The best thing you can do is choose a strategy, follow it to the letter, work the steps EVERYDAY, and you will see results.

I have tried to make my free training as easy to follow as possible, and this exact method is how I create my new sites to this day, and it’s worked over and over again.

I’m definitely not saying it’s the only way… You have to find a strategy that makes sense to you, and then put your blinders on.

Okay, I concur. Focus. You know how we wind up on all these lists, and this looks good and then that, on and on we go. Yes, focus is the key. I realized that myself just recently. There are only so many hours in a day and they go fast enough as it is without spinning our wheels. And when we do jump from this thing to that, it’s an utter waste. We never get a do-over when it comes to time. So like you wrote above, stick to one method (period). Thanks again. I’ll bookmark your site and come back again. Steve

That really is the key. I know people that don’t have the best strategy but they work that strategy a few hours straight each day, and they make good money. Kind of like fishing where you have to have your bait in the water for anything to happen.

Most fail to realize that when you first start out online that it is not easy anymore it takes real hard work and motivation to make it. I just started selling affiliate products now trying something new but selling isn’t for everybody. I find it easier to get somebody to click something rather than sell.

Good post Nate. Motivation, dedication, and actually doing the work it takes to succeed online is the key. Most people fail to realize an online business is the same as an offline business it takes work at first to succeed. But once you do the initial groundwork, and the correct system is in place, you can make money 24 hours a day 7 days a week. There is no better business than an online business once you start to figure everything out. Congrats on your success!

Thanks Jay- It really is awesome to wake up and see that you’ve made money while you were asleep.

Great post Nate, and great report!

I wish someone would have told me, in the beginning of my online ventures, what you say in your report…
1- The “concentrating on one” concept,
2- “Hone your skills, don’t buy making money online product after making money online product”

And, of course, you go ahead a do a great job of actually teaching some very valuable skills! Thanks. Enjoyed the read.

It’s amazing how many people start out in Internet marketing and spend years making just a few bucks, and some don’t make a dime. Perseverance is the key to making it eventually. If you just keep going and learn from mistakes, success will come. Looking forward to reading your “Last Six Things” course. It looks interesting.

Yes, and most people give up before they ever make any money. I even gave up a few times.

Very interesting (and comforting) to read that even the gurus like yourself are human. But, you persevered with hard work and it’s paying off.

I’m starting down that road and I can admit it’s very difficult to keep your head above water when you’re not making anything. But, determination and focus is key.

Like you said it takes doing the work day in and day out- that’s when you’ll get results.

Great post. I have just started blogging about my journey to a sustainable online income.

I have been providing content for others for about three years now but have decided that it’s time I made some money for myself.

The hardest thing for me is focus. Too many interesting things to read etc, etc,

I’ll be back to check out the rest of your posts when I have more time.
