Niche Site Update (kind of)

So a few weeks ago I showed you one of my niche sites that I was going to start adding content to with the goal of bringing it to making $500 per month.

Well, good news and bad news…

The bad news is, I had added several pages and put in a lot of work building back links to those pages for the site, and then a few days ago I was trying to manually add a plugin that I probably shouldn’t have, and I don’t know if I uploaded it wrong or if the plugin itself did it, but it crashed my site and I lost all my new pages. I was able to restore the main page and my two oldest posts, but that’s it.

And by the way- that sucks big time. If you’re running your sites on WordPress, you’re one screw-up or failed update or hacker away from losing all your work. I’m currently learning how to properly use a backup plugin and do a manual restore for when it happens next time, and when I do I’ll make a post about how to do it.

So, I don’t really have any results to show you for the Stroller site.

I’m sure you’re all interested in the process of getting a site to make $500 per month, but for me the case study was really about the effectiveness of Unique Article Wizard for getting individual pages to rank.

So that brings me to the good news. For the last two weeks I’ve been using Unique Article Wizard on each page or post I make for all of my niche sites. The good news part is that it is working faster and better than I thought it would, and I’m going to show you some of the results.

Here is a screenshot from Market Samurai where I’m tracking my rankings for a blog I have in the fitness niche. Two weeks ago, none of these pages were ranking in the top 100 at all, except for the homepage.

(click on it to make it big)

As you can see, the results are great. Doing one submission to UAW takes me about 20 minutes, and for 20 minutes extra per page to get these good of results, it’s very cost effective in terms of both time and money.

I have other niche sites that are getting the same type of results, but that I don’t want to reveal.

As I’ve said before, it’s much better to build out your niche sites to 20 to 30 pages instead of putting up 2 or 3 page “sniper” sites. The problem I was running into, was that I was getting overwhelmed trying to spend a few hours manually building back links to each individual page I put up on one of my sites. That’s when I decided that if UAW works, it’s well worth it because it will save me a lot of time, and therefore money. Plus, each submission gets me around 200-400 back links whereas manually I was taking 2-3 hours just to build around 20.

I’m going to keep working on the Stroller site as well, and I’ll post my results with that every two weeks or every month probably.

So, leave a comment or ask a question below- and “like” this post please…

Just a suggestion…this is what I do for all of my posts on my hockey site, which is WordPress – keep a .txt file of all of your posts in a file on your hard drive. If the site crashes, you can add all of your posts back in again.

Treat it just like you would content pages on a static html site and you shouldn’t run into losing all your stuff again. 🙂

That’s a good tip, and something so simple I’m an idiot to not have done it.

I have a couple of questions. Thank you for all the info by tthe way. Do you straight up link directly to your money site and the subpages or do you do a linkwheel? Also how many articles are you having UAW submit per day? Thanks again – Matt

I do link directly to my own site: the specific article page and then the homepage. UAW used to get you 1,000s of links per submission, so it was risky to link directly to your site.

They’ve cleaned up their network recently and now each submission only sends about 200-300 back links, which is better by the way because it’s natural enough that you can link directly to your own site.

I leave it at the default of 50 submissions per day.

Hope you guys don’t mind me jumping in here. Matt, I think you need to consider a few things before deciding whether to blast to your money site or not. If your domain is fairly new, I would definitely not recommend blasting to your money site.

Based on my experience with article marketing (in mass numbers), I’ve had a lot more success with using these articles as links to my buffer sites (Web 2.0 properties), and then have those Web 2.0 properties link to my money site (since they are generally higher quality links).

What are your thoughts on the longevity of UAW for backlinks? I mean technically in Google’s eyes they are illegitimate, or non-white hat at least. What will happen if they specifically target it in the future and downgrade the links, etc?

    • Nate

      Reply Reply August 24, 2011

That’s a good question, and one I can’t answer yet- although I’m not sure they’re illegitimate, unless all back links from any article directories are illegitimate.

But yeah, Google targeting like building services like UAW is always a possibility.

I do feel like the UAW guys do a good job of always trying make their service as white-hat as possible- I know they got rid of a lot of low-quality sites from their network recently.

Hi Nate. I look forward to every one of your very informative posts. I have even joined NPC through your link so I hope you get the credit. I also took advantage of all 4 of their OTO’s so again, I hope you get some credit.

      Thanks Chris-

You’ll learn a lot from NPC. Like I’ve said before, NPC was where I learned the actual skills that I needed instead of just being shown “do this and do this, and it should work” type of thing.

Thanks Jay I appreciate it. Hopefully I can get some good results out of that site. To be honest, it’s hard to work on it because my product sites do so much better, but a pure affiliate/adsense site is 100% autopilot once you get it making money so it’s worth the time to do it.

    Hey Nate,

I’ve heard a lot about UAW, but never got around to using it. Looks like you’re having a bit of success with it.

I’ll definitely do a little more research on it, and if I decide to buy it, I’ll make sure to go through your referral link!

    Hi Nate,
Found this site via a purchase of your Niche Video Tycoon product, and I’m very glad I did – some great content here, and I like your “I hate email offers” approach.
A question – I am very bad at generating backlinks, but quite a reasonable writer.
Do you think that using just something like UAW will build enough backlinks to allow me to steer clear of blog commenting (I’m in some small niches where there are simply no blogs to comment on) or fake PR releases?

    • Nate

      Reply Reply August 31, 2011

Yes, definitely. Especially if you are in small niches like you say. UAW has worked really well for me for that kind of stuff. It drove me crazy to manually build back links to each new post, and it took hours to even get 10 or 20. UAW takes about 30 min per submission, and will result in 200-400 back links.

Thanks for stopping by my blog.

I’m quite concerned about this WP crashing and back up problem.
Jason Fladlien has a back up product as do Robert Plank and Willie Crawford.
I’m leaning towards Robert Plank at a one time USD 27. The thing is: having a WP back up plugin will not do the trick if your site is fully hacked.
You need something outside of your WP site to restore ..if that makes sense
Anyway, I think Plank is a techie type so I’m going to give his product a whirl and maybe try to recoup my investment as an affiliate ..after that.

yeah im also curious about sending all articles direct to your page. google is getting aggressive against that especially if you dont rotate/change up the anchor text across articles

    • Nate

      Reply Reply September 22, 2011

Yeah, it’s good to change it up a little. For me when I do an UAW submission, I make the different anchor texts in my resource boxes a little bit different for that reason.

I use WP-DB Manager plugin, it backs up the whole site and contents and emails me a database file every 2 weeks or what ever I set it for.

Nate, i too found your blog via your video training product. i appreciate your down to earth and non-guru approach. regarding your wp backup issue, i recently discovered this plugin. i use their site templates which i like a lot, but they have a pretty poplular backup plugin and great support. i just signed up as an affiliate, mainly as friends kept asking me which wp template i use. here is the affiliate link, or you could just google backupbuddy.

about UAW and if you will continue using it ?

Hi Fred- sorry about the delay it’s been a crazy few days…

I will keep using UAW, it’s one of my favorite tools. I’m just going to start using buffer pages such as articles at Ezine or goarticles to use UAW links on instead of directly to my own site.

Hi Nate , love your blog, very good info …

Just wondering , why you don’t have a time line on the posts, I
can’t tell how current the posts are without a date, is that on
purpose , or just a by product of the theme type ?

    • Nate

      Reply Reply April 17, 2012

Steve- Yeah I took those off because people would constantly email me asking if something from a month ago still works… stuff like that made me take the dates off.

The fact is, there might be little things that change but the main things like great content and creating “actually helpful” sites won’t change.

As Fred Bartholomai said, I think UAW network has been deindex with google. Does it still really work as you said.

I have tried to type “get ripped in 4 weeks” in, but your blog not in top ten…

Can you explain about this case…??
